Medium FAQs

Question 1

Does Medium MCP require an API token or special credentials?

Accepted Answer

No, Medium MCP operates without the need for Medium API tokens or any special credentials. It uses Playwright browser automation to interact with the Medium website directly, leveraging your existing Medium login session.

Question 2

What specific content management tasks can Medium MCP perform?

Accepted Answer

Medium MCP offers robust functionality including publishing new articles with full content and tags, retrieving your previously published articles, getting the full content of any Medium article by URL, and searching Medium articles by keywords.

Question 3

What are the key limitations of using Medium MCP?

Accepted Answer

Medium MCP, being browser-based, is generally slower (10-30 seconds per operation) compared to API calls and its reliability can be affected by changes to Medium's website structure. While it runs headlessly after initial setup, the first login requires a display, and persistent Google login sessions may be challenging.

Question 4

How does Medium MCP handle login sessions and ensure security?

Accepted Answer

Upon your first use, Medium MCP prompts for a browser login, then securely saves your session locally in a JSON file for persistence. It runs locally, sending no data to external servers, and eliminates the need for API keys, enhancing security by using your browser's built-in session management.

Question 5

What is Medium MCP and why was it developed?

Accepted Answer

Medium MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a browser-based solution for programmatically managing Medium content. It was developed to bypass Medium's discontinued public API, allowing new users to automate interactions using browser automation.
