Rijksmuseum Iconclass is an AI-powered tool designed to facilitate the search and exploration of Iconclass notations in natural language. It provides access to a vast database of Iconclass concepts, including base concepts and key-expanded variants, supporting advanced semantic search capabilities. This allows users to discover related notations even without exact keyword matches, such as finding 'Ulysses longs for home' when searching for 'homesickness and exile'. Integrated with artwork count data from the Rijksmuseum, it helps researchers understand the prevalence of iconographic subjects and offers an AI assistant to navigate the Iconclass hierarchy, visualize relationships, and provide cataloguing advice. Developed as a technology demo by the RISE group at the University of Basel, it aims to explore research opportunities and challenges in retrieving and analyzing data with large language models.
