Can this skill see my existing code?

Yes, when run within a project, the skill can scan your existing architecture and files to ensure that the refined ideas are technically feasible and consistent with your current patterns.

How do I start an ideation session?

You can trigger the skill by using phrases like 'ideate on [concept]', 'help me refine this idea', or 'stress-test my plan' while interacting with Claude Code.

What is the Idea Refine skill for Claude Code?

Idea Refine is a specialized capability that helps developers and product owners turn vague concepts into actionable plans through a structured, interactive dialogue focused on clarity and focus.

What is a 'Not Doing' list and why is it included?

The 'Not Doing' list is a critical component of the final output that explicitly defines features or paths excluded from the current scope to prevent scope creep and maintain project focus.

Where does the final plan get saved?

After your confirmation, the skill saves a structured Markdown one-pager to a documentation directory, typically 'docs/ideas/[idea-name].md', for easy sharing and reference.

Idea Refine: AI Ideation & Strategy Partner

Idea Refine acts as a provocative thinking partner to transform vague notions into concrete, buildable strategies. By guiding users through a three-phase process—Understand & Expand, Evaluate & Converge, and Sharpen & Ship—it helps surface hidden assumptions, identifies technical constraints, and forces clarity on what not to build. This skill is essential for developers and product owners who want to stress-test their plans before committing code, ensuring that every project starts with a validated problem statement and a focused MVP scope.
